For those of you new to my blog you may not know that I recently returned from a year living in Japan. It was an incredible experience and I am left with many crazy memories of my great time there. 3 months ago after saying sayonara to Japan I find it is mostly the mundane everyday things that I miss the most. My list is probably greatly effected by being in SE Asia and missing some home comforts.
- The plenitude of vending machines. In Japan you don’t have to go more than a few steps for a cold or hot drink.
- Hot coffee IN CANS.
- Fancy toilets with heated seats and lots of buttons to play with.
- Sushi, but in particular 7/11 ready-made sushi which is better than most sushi you get in restaurants outside of Japan.
- Great customer service everywhere, even in fast food restaurants.
- Not having to tip for the above.
- Getting free water in restaurants.
- Always feeling safe. Being able to walk about at night or leave my wallet on the table.
- Complete silence on buses and trains.
Has anyone else spent time in Japan? What do you miss the most?
